The Internet's Guru

Dear Seeker,

The only thing worse than reading an editor's letter is writing one, so we’re not going to use a bunch of seductive spiritual language when we can just get directly to the point:

Globalish is “The Internet’s Guru”– an experiment in non-separation or a failed experiment in separation – whichever you prefer.

Our mission as a media company is to become completely useless as quickly as possible. Many of you will say we’re already a wild success! But, seriously, once what we’re pointing to takes root, we’ll happily disappear. (Until then, you’re stuck with us.)

And, for some of you, that may not be such a bad thing– the world seems to have an appetite for gurus nowadays. The “Fitness Guru.” The “Fashion Guru.” The “Financial Guru.” In a way, we’re kinda like that– just think of us as your “Guru Guru.” (#guruguru)

Because, well, if everything emerges as reflections of the Totality, why can’t we find awakening everywhere – in the mall, in art, on an iphone, in the gutter, on the evening news?

We can. And we do. At Globalish, enlightenment doesn’t have to be an aura-measuring contest. Revolution doesn’t need to be about “rebels” blindly focused on “an other.” Art can unabashedly point to the ineffable while travel can be the realization that we are the destinations we visit. In our little corner of the Internet, life becomes about the discovery of who you truly are.

So, who are you, really?

Everything we produce at Globalish (articles, films, music, art, etc.) are pointers that live at the intersection of self inquiry and emergent global culture– designed to support your seeker’s path to discover this very thing.

So let’s get on with it...

Pointers From Globalish

While most of the world points downstream to
“global solutions” rooted in separation, we point upstream
to the realization of non-separation.

The feeling that we call "I" is an illusion. There is no discrete self or ego living like a Minotaur in the labyrinth of the brain. And the feeling that there is– the sense of being perched somewhere behind your eyes, looking out at a world that is separate from yourself– can be altered or entirely extinguished. Although such experiences of "self-transcendence" are generally thought about in religious terms, there is nothing, in principle, irrational about them. From both a scientific and a philosophical point of view, they represent a clearer understanding of the way things are. Deepening that understanding, and repeatedly cutting through the illusion of the self, is what is meant by "spirituality."

Sam Harris, Author, Waking Up

What can we gain by sailing to the moon if we are not able to cross the abyss that separates us from ourselves? This is the most important of all voyages of discovery, and without it, all the rest are not only useless, but disastrous.

Thomas Merton, Catholic writer & mystic

There have been numerous great personalities in the world during the past two to three thousand years. Each one of them has laid down his own list of dos and don’ts, depending on his own concept of the right and wrong and the needs of the times as he saw them. So far so good. Let us now also ask ourselves: What have all these great men [and women] achieved? Have they been able to make the slightest change in the behavior of man or nature? There must be some reason - some fundamental reason - why they have not been successful.  Could it be that the problem itself has been misconceived, or misperceived?

Is Globalish Your Guru?

  • If the underground press had a kensho experience and wrote poetic koans on the sides of live grenades to every world leader on the planet! That’s Globalish.
  • If Ai Wei Wei traveled to Mecca to talk non-separation with Pope Francis, Nicki Minaj, and Drake! That’s Globalish.
  • If Banksy collaborated with Mooji and King Salman of Saudi Arabia on anything! That’s Globalish.
  • If Miley Cyrus, Chromeo, Alejandro Jodorowsky, & Ramana Maharshi launched a tech startup! That’s Globalish.
  • If the BBC went post-ironic and reclaimed non-dual hipsterdom for the benefit of all beings! That’s Globalish.
  • If the Dalai Lama had his female clone successor raised by Kendrick Lamar, Oprah, FKA Twigs, & Amma! That’s Globalish.
  • If the Singularity spat a team of super-sentient posthumans back in time to wake up as random fucks who write an entertainment blog that doubles as an online satsang – then Globalish is the transcendental car wreck you’d expect from that!
